 Dumped ashtray causes apartment fire The Springs Fire Department says an ashtray dumped into the trash likely caused an apartment fire yesterday.
Crews worked to contain the fire in a top-floor bedroom apartment on Zebulon Drive. It happened at around 11 a.m.
Investigators believe the fire was caused by "careless disposal of smoking material inside a trash can."
They want to remind people that smoking outside is safer, and to make sure to extinguish cigarettes and ashes before throwing them out.
